The Cleveland
Bay is Britain's oldest breed and has been free from outside influences since the 18th
Century. They have plenty of bone and substance, are hard, long lived and possess
tremendous stamina. They are always bay in colour, their action is level, free and long
striding. Characteristically the breed is very bold and honest. It is a popular family
horse and is most versitile having the ability to work well under saddle and harness. Chas Medforth established the Penrhyn Stud in the early 1970's. His family were involved with Cleveland's from Stud Book One, and following that tradition he has, at considerable personal cost, established one of the best known Studs in Britain. |

| Penrhyn stock,
particularly Stallions and Colts have been successfully shown for a number of years
achieving championships at the Royal England and Great Yorkshire Shows.
There are presently three premium Stallions at Penrhyn: Penrhyn Aristocrat, Moelion Arthur and Penrhyn Tsar. Forest Saga held the King George V cup for 3 years. His son has now held the cup for 3 successive years. |

Penrhyn Clevelands have quality, are able to stand alongside a Hunter, and be good movers. Penrhyn has ventured to breed away from the much criticised 'head' of the Cleveland and concentrated on the production of quality stock which appeals to a greater market.
